What a crazy concept to think about the red wine daily dosage. Let me just say, yes, you are on a wine website not an ad page for Tylenol!
How often do we go for some medicine, say Tylenol or NyQuil, and read the back for the dosage amount? If you're anything like me, it's every. single. time.
So, why don't we have that for wine? It is also a drug, right?

In my early drinking days (before I got a handle on it)... Too often I would have "drinkers guilt". Where I questioned what on Earth I was thinking, what is the right thing to do, what went wrong, and just feeling overly guilty for my indulgences.
If only there was a guide book I could've referenced to help understand the proper dosage of drinks AND led me to see the beauty of wine... So, I could wake up without feeling guilty (instead wake up feeling fulfilled).
Here you will learn the daily dosage of red wine as if it were a medicine out of your cabinet!
A great resource is the Sunnyside app! It helps you track your drinking, set goals, and begin to understand your drinking blueprint (and see your patterns).
This post is all about red wine daily dosage.
Red Wine Daily Dosage
Releasing Drinkers Guilt
Drinkers guilt, or drinkers remorse, is a psychological phenomenon experienced by those who drink in excess often feeling shame and regret.
Ultimately, the way to releasing drinkers guilt, or drinkers remorse, is to not drink so much! That is the honest truth. Drinking too much leads us to debauchery, mistakes, and waking up ridden with guilt.
I understand that is easier said than done. However, if you follow this guide on red wines daily dosage, then you can find some parameters to work with. Proven ways and personal ideas...
So, if you find yourself working out of these parameters and start waking up soaked in guilt you will have some understanding as to why and how to change it.
Here are three simple steps to begin to release drinkers guilt:
- Repeat to yourself "I reject the guilt, I reject the guilt, I reject the guilt".
- Find and understand your touch point. At what point in your drinking does it all shift?
- Start to look at wine as medicine (to be taken in small doses), and start to look at alcohol with caution, true true caution.
The process can be a huge mental component and it is important because we want to enjoy our drinks. It can bring so much joy and elegance to our lives, but we have to learn to be cautious.
Take caution and start to track your drinks, understand your patterns and habits to know what is leading to this unsatisfactory relation with alcohol?
The Beauty of Wine

This is my dream for you: For you to be so in love with the art and beauty of wine that it fills you up. You don't feel the need to go out to the bars or drink in excess because you are saving your pennies for that next quality bottle of wine!
If you've had a nice bottle of wine you know what I am talking about!
When I worked in Napa I had the opportunity to visit the vineyards to take biological samples and notes for my winemaker. I'm telling you, walking the vineyards I literally said to myself, "This is sacred."
Then, watching those grapes get turned to wine with the hands of our team made it that much more special.
Wine has the ability to bring so much beauty to your life through romantic evenings, celebrating with friends, having a glass in the bath, etc. We DON'T need to abuse it to get the full spectrum of what wine has to offer!

Recommended Red Wine Daily Intake
Disclaimer: This is not medical advice, if you are known to have an alcohol abuse issue please seek professional help. Nor is this a promotion for excess drinking. You must drink responsibly.
Large organizations like WHO and CDC will tell you that no amount of alcohol is considered safe. They argue that it all will lead to increased risk of heart disease and cardiovascular disease...
Though, that is why we are drinking wine and not just any kind of alcohol!
In a study done on patients with Type 2 diabetes, they found that moderately consuming wine, mostly red wine, is apparently safe and it modestly decreased the patients risk of disease... Just sayin'!
So, let's jump back into the red wine daily dosage for those who are seeking to utilizing wine, but in a safe and controlled manner.
From my research, the US Dietary Guidelines, Mayo Clinic, and CDC all recommend one alcoholic drink a night for women and two alcoholic drinks a night for men. They do not have information on red wine specifically.
Though, we can take that information and make our own assumption for what is the best red wine daily dosage:
- 1 or less glasses of wine per day for women
- 2 or less glasses of wine per day for men
- According to NIAA, no more than 7 drinks a week
Now, this does not mean to wait until Saturday night and combine all glasses into one night of 7 glasses of wine. That will cause issues and can lead to drinkers guilt...
Personally, I have 2 glasses of wine once a week, IF that (I don't drink often). But, having 2 glasses of wine with my husband means 2 glasses for him and that is one bottle.
