Women's Morning Routine

Mornings have a reputation for being chaotic, rushed, and unrealistic (especially for women who are balancing work, family, mental load, and their own wellbeing).

This 7-step ideal morning routine is not about doing more, it's about the little things we can stay consistent with!

Step 1: Wake up with an alarm

For many women, waiting to wake up “naturally” isn’t an option. Kids, work schedules, and responsibilities require structure.

An alarm removes decision fatigue and sets a clear starting point for the day. Over time, your body begins to anticipate the wake-up time, making mornings feel less jarring.

Even waking up within the same 30-minute window can dramatically improve your morning focus and energy.

Step 2: Get up without pressing snooze

Getting up when the alarm goes off builds trust with yourself.

It reinforces the idea that when you say you’re going to do something (even something small) you follow through. That sense of self-trust carries into the rest of the day.

If snoozing is a hard habit to break (and trust me, I do it more often than I would like to say), then try these waking up tips! I use these when waking up feels impossible...

Step 3: Make your bed

Making your bed is a quick win that instantly creates a sense of order and accomplishment. I notice my mornings feel calmer when I do this, even on rushed days!

A tiny act that signals closure on sleep and helps your mind transition into the day feeling more organized and in control. And, I'm sure you are aware of the benefits of this as well...

Step 4: Your one anchor habit...

Every strong morning routine needs an anchor habit, one action that signals, “My day has started.”

Brushing your teeth, for example, is ideal because it needs to be done, it is easy to do with your eyes half open, and is a great signal to start the day.

This habit becomes the foundation that everything else builds on. Even on rushed mornings, brushing your teeth marks a mental transition from sleep to wakefulness.

It’s also an easy win that requires zero motivation.

Step 5: Make your morning beverage

Maybe everyone's favorite part of the morning, and definitely part of the ideal morning routine for women.

A morning beverage is more than caffeine... It’s a ritual. Whether it’s coffee, tea, lemon water, or a warm herbal drink, this step invites slowness into the morning without adding time.

The key is intention, not complexity. One simple drink, made the same way each morning, can become a grounding signal of safety and routine.

Step 6: Grab your planner, write your to-do's

This step isn’t about planning every hour—it’s about clarity. Identify your top priorities for the day and get them out of your mind and onto paper.

Please please please, use a planner instead of your phone to keep this step calm and distraction free. It allows you to start the day intentionally, rather than reactively.

Even five minutes of planning can relax your mind, organize your thoughts, and give a game plan for your day.

Step 7: Get ready for the day

Now, onto the final step of our ideal morning routine for women is to simply get ready. Keep it simple, have your routines, and step out confident!

When you take a few minutes to prepare your body for the day, your mindset follows. The saying, "dress for success" might be onto something...

Morning Essentials (to Make Life 1000x Easier)

These essentials remove friction and reduce the number of decisions you have to make each morning. Which... Sounds ideal!

1. A coffeemaker you prep the night before

Prepping your coffee the night before is one simple self-love action that makes mornings seamless. Get this coffee maker to easily schedule your morning coffee!

I swear by this machine and absolutely love waking up to the smell of coffee and a hot pot all ready for me. You will obsess!

2. Sunrise alarm clock

A sunrise alarm clock mimics natural light by gradually brightening before your alarm goes off. This helps your body wake up more gently and reduces the shock of traditional alarms. Get your sunrise alarm here!

Many women find this especially helpful during darker months or early wake-ups. The result is less grogginess and a calmer start to the day.

3. Planner

Writing things down slows your mind and improves focus. A physical planner creates a boundary between intention and distraction.

Unlike digital tools, planners don’t come with notifications or endless scrolling. They encourage clarity and prioritization, which can help those busy busy mornings.

I enjoy a planner like this one. It is empty enough to fill it with your to-do's and basic things for the day and can really set you up for success. Plus, it takes only a few minutes!

4. Journal

On those days you have a few extra minutes, a journal is a great tool to have near by. Throw in some ideas, your thoughts, feelings, etc.

Journaling doesn’t need to be deep or time-consuming. A few lines (gratitude, intentions, or reflections) can help regulate emotions and improve mood. Get your journal here!

5. Ready-to-wear outfit

All the CEO's do it, you could too! It is an EASY thing to set up the night before and makes the morning that much simpler.

It removes decision fatigue, saves time, and makes getting ready feel smoother and calmer (especially on mornings when your energy or patience is low).

3 Things You MUST Avoid...

Even the best routine can be undone by a few common habits. Avoiding these three things can dramatically improve how your mornings feel. Trust me!

  • Excess alcohol the night before
  • Immediately looking at your phone...
  • Trying to do everything
Excess alcohol the night before

Alcohol disrupts sleep quality, increases nighttime awakenings, and elevates morning anxiety. Even small amounts can affect how rested you feel.

Reducing or skipping alcohol the night before allows your body to fully rest (and makes waking up significantly easier).

Immediately looking at your phone

I could scream this from the roof tops. Checking your phone first thing in the morning puts your brain into reactive mode. Messages, news, and social media hijack your attention and fry your brain (seriously!).

Protect your nervous system, focus, and energy by avoiding your phone for at least 20 minutes!

Trying to do everything

The fastest way to abandon a routine is to overload it. You don’t need to do every habit every morning... That is just crazy talk.

Consistency comes from simplicity. Choose what supports you most and allows flexibility.

Truly, a healthy ideal morning routine for women is about what is best for you. You could do a million and one things in the morning, but really it is all about what supports you the best.
